This private pharmacy service allows eligible adults to access Naproxen 250mg tablets, a proven non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) for the short-term treatment of:

• Non-specific lower back pain (ages 18–65)

• Primary period pain (dysmenorrhoea) (ages 16–50)

Following a short consultation with a pharmacist under a Patient Group Direction (PGD), suitable patients can receive a private supply of up to 84 tablets (back pain) or 28 tablets per cycle (period pain).

✅ Who Can Use This Service?

For Lower Back Pain:

• Aged 18–65

• Diagnosed with non-specific lower back pain

• Symptoms vary with movement/posture

• No red flag symptoms (e.g. numbness, severe pain, incontinence)

For Period Pain:

• Women aged 16–50

• Diagnosed with primary dysmenorrhoea

• Looking for non-hormonal pain relief

• No signs of secondary causes (e.g. endometriosis)

❌ Who Is Not Eligible?

For both conditions, you cannot use this service if you:

• Are pregnant, trying to conceive, or breastfeeding

• Have GI ulcers, bleeding, or a history of NSAID-related complications

• Have heart, kidney, or liver disease

• Are allergic to naproxen, ibuprofen, aspirin, or other NSAIDs

• Take any of the following:

  • Anticoagulants (e.g., warfarin, heparin)

  • SSRIs, corticosteroids, or other NSAIDs

  • Methotrexate, lithium, or tacrolimus

• Have uncontrolled hypertension, bleeding disorders, or asthma

• Have sugar intolerance (e.g. lactose or galactose metabolism disorder)

• Drug: Naproxen 250mg tablets

• Type: Anti-inflammatory & pain relief

• Form: Oral tablets – take with or after food, swallow whole

🧍♂️ For Back Pain:

• Day 1: 500mg initially, then 250mg every 6–8 hours

• Max/day: 750mg (3 tablets) from day 2 onward

• Course: Up to 28 days

• Supply: Max 84 tablets

🌙 For Period Pain:

• Day 1: 500mg initially, then 250mg every 6–8 hours

• Days 2–3: 250mg every 6–8 hours as needed

• Max/day: Day 1 – 1.25g (5 tablets), Days 2–3 – 750mg

• Course: Max 3 days per menstrual cycle

• Supply: 28 tablets per consultation
