Our private pharmacy service offers access to Varenicline (Champix®), a powerful prescription medication proven to help smokers quit successfully. This service is for adults motivated to quit who have already tried Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) without success.

✅ Who is eligible?

• Adults aged 18 or over

• Motivated to quit smoking, and willing to set a quit date between days 8–14 of treatment

• Previously tried and failed with Nicotine Replacement Therapy

• Willing to attend weekly motivational support for the first 4 weeks

• Provided valid written or verbal consent

❌ Who is not eligible?

• Under 18

• Not motivated to quit or unwilling to engage in behavioural support

• Pregnant or breastfeeding

• Severe renal impairment (eGFR < 30 ml/min)

• History of psychiatric illness, including suicidal thoughts

• History of seizures or conditions lowering seizure threshold

• Allergic to varenicline or any of its ingredients

• Currently taking medications that interact with varenicline (e.g. bupropion, isotretinoin)

💊 Treatment Details

• Medication: Varenicline tartrate (Champix®)

• Course: 12 weeks (with potential for an additional 12-week maintenance course)

• Dosage:

  • Days 1–3: 0.5mg once daily

  • Days 4–7: 0.5mg twice daily

  • From Day 8: 1mg twice daily

• Supply format:

  • 1st supply: 2 weeks

  • 2nd & 3rd supply: 4 weeks each

  • 4th supply: 2 weeks (to complete 12-week course)

🔍 What to Watch For

• Rare but serious side effects: allergic reactions, skin rash, hallucinations – discontinue and seek help immediately

• Caution advised when driving or operating machinery

• Varenicline is more effective when combined with face-to-face support

• If you previously used Varenicline but relapsed, a new quit attempt is possible

• Continue to avoid smoking completely from your set quit date

• If quitting gradually, you must fully stop by week 12
