Description

Lyclear Dermal Cream contains permethrin 5% w/w, a pyrethroid anti-parasitic agent used to treat infestations of scabies and crab lice. It is applied to the skin, left on for at least 8 hours and then washed off. Pharmacy (P) medicine sold by Ways Pharmacy (UK).

Who it is for

Adults, the elderly and children aged 2 years and over who have been diagnosed with scabies.
Adults over 18 treating crab lice.
Close contacts and household members of someone with scabies, who usually need treating at the same time. Ask our pharmacist for advice.

Not suitable for: Anyone allergic to permethrin, other pyrethrins or any of the other ingredients. Not for newborns and babies under 2 months of age unless a doctor advises it, and children up to 23 months should only be treated under close medical supervision. Speak to a doctor first if you are known to be allergic to chrysanthemums or other compositae plants. Do not let the cream get into the eyes, on to mucous membranes (inside the nose or throat, or the genital region) or on to open wounds. Corticosteroid creams should not be used on skin conditions such as eczema while Lyclear is being used. Ask a doctor or pharmacist for advice before use if you are pregnant, think you may be pregnant, are planning a baby or are breastfeeding.

How to use

Read the label and Patient Information Leaflet (PIL) before use.
Apply to clean, dry, cool skin. Do not take a hot bath or shower immediately before treatment; if you do, let the skin cool first.
Pierce the tube, remove the cap and reverse it over the nozzle, push firmly and turn. Apply a thin layer of cream and rub it gently in.
For scabies, cover the whole body including the neck, palms and soles, treating carefully between the fingers and toes, under the nails, and on the wrists, elbows, armpits, external genitalia and buttocks. Children, and adults over 65, should also have the face, ears and scalp treated, sparing the eyes and the skin around the mouth.
Leave the cream on for at least 8 hours for scabies, or 24 hours for crab lice, then wash it off with soap and water. If you have to wash your hands during that time, reapply cream to the hands and wrists.
Repeat the application 7 to 14 days after the first treatment.

Frequently asked questions

How long do I leave Lyclear Dermal Cream on the skin?

For scabies, at least 8 hours, for example overnight, then wash it off with soap and water. For crab lice, leave it on for 24 hours before washing it off. Avoid bathing, showering or washing while the cream is on.

Can children use it?

For scabies it can be used from 2 months of age, but children up to 23 months should only be treated under close medical supervision. Use up to 7.5g for ages 2 months to 5 years, up to 15g for ages 6 to 12, and up to 30g for over-12s.

Why am I still itchy after the treatment?

Itching and a skin rash, known as post-scabies eczema, may last for up to four weeks after treatment ends. It is a reaction to the killed mites. Speak to your doctor before applying the cream again if you think the infestation is still there.

Should my family be treated too?

Direct contacts should also be treated. Ask our pharmacist for advice on who needs treating and when.

Does it affect condoms?

The cream contains paraffins, which can reduce the reliability of latex products such as condoms and diaphragms used at the same time.

Safety and storage

For external use on the skin only. Do not swallow it. Avoid contact with the eyes, mucous membranes and open wounds, and rinse thoroughly with water if this happens.
Do not smoke or go near naked flames while the cream is on the skin. Fabric such as clothing, bedding and dressings that has been in contact with it burns more easily and is a serious fire hazard; washing reduces the build-up but does not remove it completely.
Contains butylated hydroxytoluene (E321), formaldehyde solution, lanolin alcohols and paraffins, which may cause local skin reactions or irritation of the eyes and mucous membranes.
Harmful to insects and to animals living in water. Do not let it get into aquaria or terraria.
Do not store above 25°C. Do not freeze. Keep out of the sight and reach of children.
