💡 What is the Hepatitis B Vaccine?

The Hepatitis B vaccine helps protect against hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection by stimulating the immune system to produce antibodies against the surface antigen (HBsAg). It is widely used and proven to be both safe and effective, offering over 90% protection when the full vaccination course is completed.

💉 Available Vaccines

We offer two main options:

• Engerix B (by GlaxoSmithKline): a recombinant hepatitis B vaccine typically given as a 3-dose schedule.

• HBvaxPRO (by Sanofi Pasteur MSD): another recombinant vaccine, administered in 2 or 3 doses depending on age and clinical guidance.

Once vaccinated, the body produces anti-HBs antibodies that protect against hepatitis B infection.

💉 Vaccination Schedules

Depending on the vaccine chosen and risk level, you may follow one of these:

▶️ Engerix B (20µg)

1. Standard 3-dose schedule: 0, 1, and 6 months – suitable for most people

2. Accelerated 3-/4-dose schedule: 0, 1, 2, and (optional booster at 12 months) – for travellers and high-risk groups

3. Ultra-rapid schedule (for 18+ only): Day 0, Day 7, Day 21, and booster at 12 months – for urgent protection (e.g. healthcare workers)

▶️ HBvaxPRO (10µg)

Same schedules as above apply, tailored based on clinical advice and age group.

💪 Booster Advice

• A booster dose is recommended 5 years after full immunisation if you remain at ongoing risk.

• A blood test (anti-HBs titre) can determine if your antibody level is protective. If low, a booster may be required.

• Individuals with weakened immune systems may need additional doses.

Q1: Do I need the Hepatitis B vaccine?

Q2: How many doses are needed?

Q6: What if I miss a scheduled dose?
A: Resume as soon as possible. There’s no need to restart the whole course.

Q7: Is the vaccine lifelong?
A: Protection can last for decades. Some high-risk groups may need a booster after 5 years.

Q8: I paid for 3 doses but only completed 1 or 2. What happens?
A: We charge £50 per administered dose and refund the remaining amount.
