What is measured
The panel runs the London Medical Laboratory ML8 Well Woman Premier Profile:
- Full Blood Count + 5-part differential — haemoglobin, red and white cell counts, platelets, neutrophils, lymphocytes, monocytes, eosinophils, basophils
- Urea & Electrolytes — urea, creatinine, eGFR
- Liver Function — ALP, ALT, AST, GGT, total protein, globulin, albumin, bilirubin
- Bone Profile — phosphate, calcium, uric acid (urate / gout marker)
- Muscle Enzymes — CK, LDH
- Cholesterol Profile — total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, HDL percentage, non-HDL cholesterol, total:HDL ratio, triglycerides
- Iron Study — iron, UIBC/TIBC, transferrin saturation, plus separate ferritin (iron stores)
- Diabetes — HbA1c
- Thyroid Function — TSH, free T4 (FT4)
- Inflammation — high-sensitivity CRP (hsCRP)
- Vitamins — vitamin D, vitamin B12, folate
- Reproductive hormones — FSH (follicle-stimulating hormone), LH (luteinising hormone), oestradiol
Note on cycle timing: FSH, LH and oestradiol fluctuate across the menstrual cycle. For the most informative reading they are usually best taken on days 2–5 of your cycle (the first day of bleeding is day 1). Tell us when booking if you are tracking your cycle.
Who it is for
- Women aged 25+ who want a full-body baseline of their current health
- Women with non-specific symptoms — fatigue, irregular periods, weight change, low mood, low energy — looking for a structured assessment
- Women considering pregnancy who want a baseline of nutritional status, thyroid function, and general health
- Women in their 40s and 50s tracking hormonal change around perimenopause (FSH, LH, oestradiol are included)
- Women with a family history of heart disease, diabetes, or thyroid disease seeking broader screening than the NHS health check provides
Not suitable for: people who are pregnant and want a pregnancy-specific antenatal panel (different markers are needed — ask your midwife); acutely unwell patients who need urgent assessment; use as a substitute for cervical screening, mammography, or other structural investigations.
How the service works
- Complete payment online and call Holborn London on 020 8106 7084 to book an appointment.
- No fasting is required for this panel. Take any prescribed medications as normal unless told otherwise. If you are tracking your menstrual cycle, hormonal markers (FSH, LH, oestradiol) are usually most informative on days 2–5 — mention this when booking.
- Attend Ways Pharmacy, 77 Southampton Row, London WC1B 4ET. A trained phlebotomist will take a venous blood sample.
- The sample is sent to the partner laboratory.
- You will receive a written report within approximately 3–5 working days. A pharmacist can talk you through the results and recommend GP follow-up where appropriate.
Frequently asked questions
When in my cycle should I have the test?
For the most informative hormone reading, the test is usually best taken between days 2 and 5 of your menstrual cycle (counting the first day of bleeding as day 1). If you have an irregular cycle or are postmenopausal, this timing is less critical — the pharmacist will advise at booking. The non-hormone markers are not cycle-dependent.
Do I need to fast?
No. This panel does not require fasting — you can eat and drink as normal before your appointment. Take your regular medications as usual unless your GP has advised otherwise.
When will I get my results?
Results are typically returned 3–5 working days after the lab receives your sample. You will receive a written report and can request a brief follow-up call with the pharmacist if you would like the markers explained.
Will this test confirm I am in perimenopause or menopause?
FSH, LH and oestradiol are useful indicators of ovarian reserve and reproductive-stage change, but menopause is primarily a clinical diagnosis based on age and symptoms. Hormone levels fluctuate during perimenopause, so a single set of results is interpreted alongside your symptoms and cycle pattern.
What if a result is abnormal?
The pharmacist will explain any out-of-range result and recommend the appropriate next step. This may be lifestyle change, repeat testing, or referral to your GP. We do not diagnose or treat conditions in the pharmacy — abnormal results are managed with your GP.
Is this an NHS service?
No. The Comprehensive Health Inspection for Women is a private health-screening service offered by Ways Pharmacy. NHS health checks are usually narrower in scope and are offered to adults aged 40–74 every 5 years.
