- People with fungal infections of the mouth and throat who need a gel that stays in contact with the area
- People who prefer a sugar-free formulation
Not suitable for: anyone allergic to miconazole or any ingredient on the label; babies under the age at which it is licensed (check the leaflet, as there is a choking risk in very young infants); and anyone taking warfarin or other interacting medicines without first checking with the pharmacist. Speak to your pharmacist before use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
How to use
- Read the patient information leaflet to confirm the right dose for the person's age.
- Apply the gel to the affected areas of the mouth with a clean finger after meals.
- Hold the gel in the mouth and keep it in contact with the affected area for as long as possible before swallowing.

Frequently asked questions
How long does Daktarin Oral Gel take to work?
Soreness and white patches usually start to improve within a few days, but you should continue treatment for at least 7 days after symptoms have cleared so the infection does not return. If there is no improvement after a week, see your doctor.
Can I use Daktarin Oral Gel with warfarin?
Miconazole can increase the effect of warfarin and raise the risk of bleeding. If you take warfarin or any other blood-thinning medicine, tell your pharmacist before using this gel so they can advise you.
Should I swallow the gel?
Hold the gel in your mouth for as long as you can so it stays in contact with the affected area, then swallow. Do not eat or drink immediately afterwards, to give the gel time to work.
Can I use it in pregnancy?
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, ask your pharmacist or doctor before using the gel. They can confirm whether it is suitable for you.
Can children use Daktarin Oral Gel?
It can be used in children at the doses set out in the leaflet, but it must be applied carefully and not in large amounts at the back of the throat, as there is a choking risk in very young infants. Check the leaflet for the minimum age and ask your pharmacist if unsure.
Safety and storage
- For use in the mouth only. Apply carefully and avoid placing large amounts at the back of the throat, especially in children.
- Tell your pharmacist if you take warfarin, certain diabetes medicines, statins or other medicines, as miconazole can interact with them.
- Continue treatment after symptoms clear to stop the infection returning.
- If there is no improvement after 7 days, or symptoms recur, see your doctor.
- Store as directed on the pack and keep out of the sight and reach of children.
