✅ Who is eligible?

• Aged 18 years or over

• Diagnosed with GORD via endoscopy or experiencing frequent heartburn, chest discomfort, or acid reflux

• Prefer not to visit a GP and wish to access treatment directly from a pharmacy

❌ Who is not eligible?

• Pregnant or breastfeeding individuals

• Suspected or diagnosed with gastric ulcer, stomach cancer, or complications (e.g. difficulty swallowing, weight loss, vomiting blood, black stool)

• Using NSAIDs and experiencing stomach discomfort

• With moderate to severe liver impairment or a history of ulcers/surgery in the GI tract

• Allergic to PPIs (e.g. esomeprazole, rabeprazole, lansoprazole)

• Patients with unexplained or worsening digestive symptoms – they should be referred to a GP

💊 Medication Information

• Drug class: Proton Pump Inhibitors (PPIs)

  • May include: Esomeprazole 20mg, Rabeprazole 10mg, Lansoprazole 15/30mg

• Dosage: Once daily, preferably 30 minutes before breakfast

• Form: Gastro-resistant capsules or orodispersible tablets (do not chew or crush)

• Treatment course: Initial 4-week course is recommended. If symptoms persist, further GP referral is advised

• Avoid trigger foods such as spicy meals, caffeine, chocolate, alcohol, large evening meals

• Do not lie down immediately after eating; elevate the head of your bed if needed

• Manage weight and stress; stop smoking if applicable

• Do not double dose if a tablet is missed

• Long-term PPI use may require regular GP monitoring (e.g. calcium, magnesium, vitamin B12 levels)
