Frequently asked questions

How much should I take?

Adults and adolescents aged 12 and over take 10 ml four times a day. Do not take more than 40 ml, which is 800 mg of guaifenesin, in 24 hours.

What does guaifenesin do?

Guaifenesin is an expectorant. It thins the mucus in the chest so that a chesty cough is easier to clear.

Can children take it?

It is licensed from 12 years of age. It is not for children under 12, as the dose and safety have not been established in that age group.

Can I take it if I am pregnant or breastfeeding?

It is not recommended during pregnancy. Guaifenesin passes into breast milk, so speak to a doctor or pharmacist before use if you are breastfeeding.

How long does the syrup keep once opened?

Use the bottle within 6 months of first opening. Keep it in the original amber bottle to protect it from light.
