Who should consider it
- Travellers to areas at risk of polio or diphtheria who are due a booster
- People whose last tetanus, diphtheria and polio dose was more than 10 years ago
- People needing documented cover for occupational health purposes
- Adults uncertain of their vaccination status who want to be brought up to date for travel
Not suitable for: people with a confirmed allergy to a vaccine component; people acutely unwell with a fever on the day. This service provides the vaccine for travel or occupational purposes only and cannot give post-exposure tetanus treatment after a contaminated wound — see the safety note below. The pharmacist will confirm suitability.
How to book
- Select the service and complete payment online.
- Call Ways Pharmacy Holborn on 020 8106 7084 to arrange your appointment, ideally at least 2 weeks before travel.
- At the appointment, the pharmacist reviews your vaccination history and travel plans and confirms whether a single booster or further doses are needed.
- The vaccine is administered into the upper arm, followed by a short observation period.
Frequently asked questions
How many doses do I need?
If you have been fully vaccinated in the past, a single booster dose is usually enough. If you have never completed a primary course, you may need several doses for full protection. The pharmacist will confirm based on your vaccination history.
How far before travel should I get it?
Aim to have your booster at least 2 weeks before travel so protection is in place. If you need a full primary course, allow more time, as doses are spaced over several weeks.
Where do I get vaccinated?
The vaccine is administered by a GPhC-registered pharmacist at our Holborn travel clinic, Ways Pharmacy, 77 Southampton Row, London WC1B 4ET, near the British Museum and Holborn station. You can read more on our Holborn branch page.
How long does the booster last?
A Revaxis booster protects for about 10 years, after which another booster is needed to maintain immunity, particularly if you are travelling to a risk area. The pharmacist will note when your next dose is due.
Can you treat a contaminated wound here?
No. This service provides the vaccine for travel or occupational health only and does not provide post-exposure tetanus treatment. If you have a contaminated or serious wound, clean it with soap and warm water and contact NHS 111, or attend A&E for serious wounds or bleeding that will not stop.
Safety / who should not
- Administered by a GPhC-registered pharmacist in a private consulting room
- For travel and occupational health only — not for post-exposure wound treatment
- Not given to anyone with a confirmed allergy to a vaccine component
- 15-minute observation period after the injection
- Common side effects (injection-site soreness, feeling unwell) are usually mild and short-lived
