Frequently asked questions
How many doses of Gardasil 9 do I need?
It depends on your age at the first dose. People aged 9–14 usually need two doses, given at least 6 months apart. People aged 15 and over usually need three doses, completed within 6 months. The pharmacist confirms your schedule at the first appointment.
What does Gardasil 9 protect against?
Gardasil 9 covers nine HPV types — 6, 11, 16, 18, 31, 33, 45, 52 and 58 — including the types most commonly associated with HPV-related cancers and with genital warts.
Who can have the HPV vaccine at Ways Pharmacy?
The service is for people aged 9 to 45, following a clinical assessment by the pharmacist at your first visit.
Who should not have Gardasil 9, or should wait?
Anyone with an allergy to a component of Gardasil 9 should not have it. Vaccination is deferred during pregnancy until after the baby is born, and postponed if you have a fever on the day.
Is this an NHS service?
No — this is a private vaccination service. If you think you may be eligible for a free NHS HPV vaccination, speak to your GP practice first.
Can I have the course at your Nottingham branch instead?
Yes. The service is also available at our Beeston, Nottingham branch — call 0115 925 5584 to book there.
