Who it is for
- Adults and children with dry, rough, flaky or tight skin who want a fragrance-free daily moisturiser
- People with eczema-prone, itch-prone or easily-irritated skin looking for a leave-on emollient
- Parents wanting a single cream suitable for the whole family from birth, including babies
- People who prefer a paraffin-free emollient and want a gentle soap substitute for sensitive skin
Not suitable for: anyone allergic to colloidal oatmeal (oats) or any other ingredient on the label. Avoid broken, weeping or infected skin and keep away from the eyes. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, ask your pharmacist before use. This is an emollient, not a treatment that cures eczema.
How to use
- Apply liberally to clean, dry skin as often as needed throughout the day.
- Smooth gently in the direction of hair growth rather than rubbing in hard, which can irritate the skin.
- Reapply after bathing or showering to help lock in moisture while the skin is still slightly damp.
- To use as a soap substitute, smooth onto wet skin in place of soap, then rinse and pat dry.
- For external use only. Avoid contact with the eyes; if contact occurs, rinse thoroughly with water.
Frequently asked questions
Is AproDerm Colloidal Oat Cream a steroid?
No. It is a fragrance-free emollient moisturiser classed as a medical device, not a steroid or a medicine. It works by moisturising the skin and helping to relieve dryness and itch, so it can be used as often as needed.
Can I use it on a baby?
Yes. AproDerm Colloidal Oat Cream is suitable for the whole family from birth, including babies and children. Apply a thin layer to dry areas as needed and avoid the eye area.
Does it cure eczema?
No. An emollient does not cure eczema; it moisturises the skin, helps relieve dryness and itch, and supports the skin barrier as part of a daily routine. If your eczema is flaring or not controlled, speak to your pharmacist or GP about additional treatment.
Can I use it as a soap substitute?
Yes. Colloidal oatmeal helps cleanse the skin, so the cream can be smoothed onto wet skin in place of soap and then rinsed off. This is useful for people who find regular soap drying or irritating.
Does it contain SPF or sun protection?
No. This cream contains no SPF. Use a separate sunscreen if you need protection from the sun.
Safety and storage
- For external use only. Do not use if you are allergic to colloidal oatmeal or any ingredient on the label.
- Avoid contact with the eyes; rinse thoroughly with water if contact occurs.
- Emollients can make surfaces, clothing and dressings slippery and more easily flammable — keep away from naked flames.
- Store in a cool, dry place below 25 degrees C, away from direct sunlight. Do not use after the expiry date on the pack.
- Keep out of the sight and reach of children. If symptoms persist or worsen, speak to your pharmacist or GP.
