Frequently asked questions
How long does Beconase take to work?
Beconase is a steroid spray that works gradually. You may notice some relief within a few days, but it can take up to two weeks of regular daily use to reach full effect, so it is best started before or early in the pollen season.
Is Beconase a steroid, and does it make you drowsy?
Yes, Beconase contains a corticosteroid (beclometasone) that acts locally in the nose. It is not an antihistamine and does not cause drowsiness.
Can you use Beconase every day?
It is designed for regular daily use through the pollen season. Do not exceed 4 sprays per nostril a day, and do not use it for more than one month continuously without speaking to your doctor.
Who can buy Beconase over the counter?
Over the counter, Beconase is for adults aged 18 and over. Younger people can use beclometasone nasal spray only on the advice of a doctor.
Can I use Beconase with antihistamine tablets?
Many people use a steroid nasal spray alongside a non-drowsy antihistamine for combined symptoms. Ask your pharmacist for advice on combining hay fever treatments.
