- Gently smooth the gel over and around all dry skin areas once daily, or as often as needed.
- Use a few gentle strokes in the direction of hair growth and allow any excess to soak in. Do not rub vigorously.
- To wash with it, use it as you would use normal soap.
- If you use another treatment on the same area, apply the two at different times so that the first has soaked in before you apply the second.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need a prescription or consultation to buy Doublebase Once?
No. Doublebase Once is a medical device emollient, not a prescription medicine, so you can add it to your basket without an assessment. Our pharmacists are happy to answer questions before you buy.
Can babies and children use Doublebase Once?
Yes. The manufacturer states that all age groups can use it, including infants, children, adults and the elderly.
Can I use it during pregnancy or while breastfeeding?
The leaflet says it can be used during pregnancy and while breastfeeding. The ingredients have been widely used in similar products for many years without reports of problems, but safety trials have not been conducted. Ask your doctor or pharmacist if you would like advice.
Can I use it with other skin treatments?
Yes, it can be used in addition to other emollients or treatments you have been given. Avoid mixing them on the skin: apply them at different times and let the first soak in.
Why is there a fire warning on an emollient?
The gel contains paraffin and other oily ingredients. Fabric that has been in contact with it burns more easily, and washing may reduce the build-up but will not remove it completely.
Safety and storage
- Fire risk: do not smoke or go near naked flames, because there is a risk of severe burns. Fabric that has been in contact with this product, including clothing, bedding and dressings, burns more easily and is a serious fire hazard. Washing may reduce product build-up but will not totally remove it.
- In rare cases it can cause skin irritation (mild rashes) or allergic skin reactions on extremely sensitive skin, usually during or soon after the first few uses.
- Stop using it and speak to your doctor, nurse or pharmacist if your skin looks or feels worse, or if any side effect becomes serious.
- If swallowed, its oily ingredients may cause diarrhoea. Drink plenty of water and do not try to make yourself sick.
- You can report side effects to your doctor, nurse or pharmacist, or through the MHRA Yellow Card scheme.
- Keep out of the sight and reach of children. Do not store above 25°C and do not freeze. Lock the pump after use, and do not use after the use-by date on the container.
