Who it is for

A doctor, dietitian or pharmacist may recommend Forceval when the diet does not provide enough vitamins, minerals and trace elements, or when absorption is inadequate. It is not a substitute for a balanced diet with adequate protein and energy.

Not suitable for: children under 12; anyone allergic to its ingredients, peanuts or soya; people with high blood calcium or iron-storage disorders such as haemochromatosis.

How to use

• Adults and older people: one capsule a day, or the dose prescribed by your doctor.
• Swallow whole with water, preferably one hour after a meal. Do not take on an empty stomach.
• Do not exceed the dose or combine with other vitamin or mineral supplements unless medically supervised.
• If a dose is missed, do not double the next dose. If overdose occurs, contact a doctor or an emergency department immediately and take the pack.

Safety and storage

• Tell your clinician about all medicines and supplements; phenytoin and tetracycline antibiotics can interact.
• Seek advice before use if pregnant, planning pregnancy, breastfeeding, a smoker, previously exposed to asbestos, or if you have thyroid disease.
• The colourings amaranth (E123) and Ponceau 4R (E124) may cause allergic reactions. The capsules also contain gelatin.
• Possible side effects include allergic rash, nausea, vomiting and stomach pain. Speak to your clinician about side effects or persistent symptoms.
• Contains iron: overdose may be fatal in children. Keep securely out of their sight and reach.
• Store below 25°C in a dry place; keep blisters in the carton to protect from light. Follow the printed expiry date.
