Infacol is an antiflatulent oral suspension containing simeticone 40mg/ml, given before feeds to relieve griping pain, infant colic and wind due to trapped air. Can be used from birth, 55ml bottle sold by Ways Pharmacy (UK).

Who it is for

- Anyone trying Infacol for the first time who prefers the smaller bottle
Not suitable for: Do not give Infacol if your baby may be allergic to simeticone or any of the other ingredients. Do not give it, and get advice from a doctor, if your baby is being treated for a thyroid disorder, as Infacol might reduce how much levothyroxine is absorbed. Infacol contains methyl hydroxybenzoate (E218) and propyl hydroxybenzoate (E216), which may cause allergic reactions (possibly delayed).
How to use
- Read the label and Patient Information Leaflet (PIL) before use.
- Gently shake the bottle before each dose.
- Squeeze the bulb twice to fill the dropper, then wipe any excess back into the bottle.
- Release one dropper full (0.5ml) onto the back of your baby's tongue before each feed.
- After 3 or 4 days, if the colic has not improved, the dose can be increased to two droppers full (1ml).
- If your baby is no better or seems to be getting worse, contact your health visitor or doctor.

Can I use it from birth?
Yes. Infacol is suitable from birth onwards and is given before each feed.
What is the difference between the 55ml and 85ml bottles?
Only the volume of liquid. Both are the same simeticone 40mg/ml oral suspension and are given at the same dose.
What if I forget a dose?
Do not worry if you miss one or more doses. Simply give the next dose before your baby's next feed.
Is it suitable if my baby has a thyroid condition?
No. Do not give Infacol if your baby is being treated for a thyroid disorder, and get advice from a doctor. Infacol might reduce the amount of levothyroxine absorbed and weaken that treatment.
Does Infacol cause side effects?
Simeticone is not absorbed into your baby's body and is very unlikely to cause harm, so side effects are very unusual. The preservatives it contains may cause allergic reactions in rare cases.
How should I store it?
Do not store above 25°C, and use within 28 days of opening. Do not use it after the expiry date on the bottle and carton.
