How to use
- Read the enclosed leaflet carefully before use.
- Start Step 3 once you have finished Step 2 (14mg), as set out in the leaflet's step-down tables.
- Apply one new patch each day, preferably soon after waking, to clean, dry, hairless skin. Press it firmly with your palm for at least 10 seconds.
- Leave it in place for 24 hours, or remove it at bedtime (after about 16 hours) if you prefer. Use a different skin site each time and do not reuse a site for at least seven days.
- Use Step 3 for 2 weeks. Patches can be continued if you need them to stay off cigarettes, but get advice from a healthcare professional if you are still using them after 9 months.
- After handling a patch, wash your hands with water only, not soap. Fold used patches in half, sticky side in, and throw them away out of reach of children and pets.
Frequently asked questions
When should I move to the 7mg patch?
After Step 2. Heavier smokers use it in weeks 9 and 10; lighter smokers in weeks 7 and 8.
How long does a pack of 7 last?
One patch a day, so one pack lasts 1 week. Step 3 is normally used for 2 weeks, so most people need two packs.
Do I have to wear it overnight?
No. It can be worn for 24 hours or removed at bedtime after about 16 hours, although morning cravings may be stronger.
Can I shower or swim with it?
Yes, for short periods, as long as the patch has been applied properly.
Can I use it while pregnant?
Ideally stop without nicotine replacement. If that has not worked, a healthcare professional may recommend NRT, so ask first.
Safety and storage
- Nicotine can cause severe poisoning in children. Keep out of the reach and sight of children, including used patches.
- Talk to a healthcare professional first if you have heart problems, diabetes, epilepsy, stomach or duodenal ulcers, serious liver or kidney problems, an overactive thyroid, or allergic eczema or dermatitis.
- Keep patches in their sealed sachets in the carton until use, and do not use a patch if its sachet is damaged or open.
- Read the PIL. Report suspected side effects through the MHRA Yellow Card scheme.
This is a medicine. Always read the enclosed leaflet before use. Consult your doctor or pharmacist if you have an underlying medical condition or take other medicines.
