- Adults taking statins, who often choose to take a CoQ10 supplement alongside (discuss with your prescriber)
- Adults following a vegetarian diet with limited intake of organ meat or oily fish, the main dietary sources of Q10
- People who have previously taken Pharma Nord Q10 and want to continue the same Danish-manufactured brand
Not suitable for: children and adolescents; pregnant or breastfeeding women without medical advice; people allergic to soya or any listed ingredient. Speak to your prescriber if you take warfarin or other anticoagulants, as CoQ10 may affect the international normalised ratio (INR).
How to use
- Take one capsule daily with a meal that contains some fat. The oil-suspension formula is absorbed more efficiently with food.
- Swallow whole with water. Do not chew or open the capsule.
- For consistency, take it at the same time each day. CoQ10 levels build gradually over weeks of regular use.
- Continue as part of a varied and balanced diet. Do not exceed one capsule per day unless directed by a healthcare professional.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between ubiquinone and ubiquinol?
Ubiquinone is the oxidised form of coenzyme Q10 and is the form used in Pharma Nord Bio-Quinone Active Q10 Gold. The body converts ubiquinone to ubiquinol (the reduced form) as needed. Pharma Nord's ubiquinone is the reference product in over 90 published bioavailability and clinical studies.
Can I take CoQ10 alongside statins?
Many people take CoQ10 alongside statin therapy because statins reduce the body's own CoQ10 synthesis. CoQ10 is not a substitute for statins. Discuss with your GP or pharmacist before starting if you are on statins or other regular medication.
Is this product suitable for vegetarians or vegans?
The capsule shell is bovine gelatin, so the product is not suitable for vegetarians or vegans. Pharma Nord makes other Q10 presentations; check the label of any alternative.
How long does it take to feel a difference from CoQ10?
CoQ10 is not a stimulant. Plasma levels rise gradually over two to three weeks of daily use and plateau at around four to eight weeks. Effects are individual and CoQ10 is best viewed as a long-term nutritional supplement rather than an acute treatment.
Can I take more than 100mg of Q10 per day?
Some clinical studies have used higher doses, but these were supervised. For self-selected supplement use, 100mg per day is the recommended intake. Do not exceed this without advice from your GP or pharmacist.
