Frequently asked questions
How long does Pirinase take to work?
Pirinase is a steroid spray that works gradually with regular use. Some relief may come within a day or two, but full benefit can take several days to two weeks, so it works best started early in the pollen season.
Is Pirinase a steroid spray, and is it drowsy?
Yes, Pirinase contains fluticasone, a corticosteroid that acts locally in the nose. It is not an antihistamine and does not cause drowsiness.
Can I use Pirinase every day?
It is designed for once-daily use through the pollen season. Do not use more than 2 sprays per nostril a day, and do not use it for more than one month continuously without speaking to your doctor.
Why should I not use Pirinase if I take HIV medicines?
Some HIV medicines (such as ritonavir) can raise the level of fluticasone in the body. Do not use Pirinase if you are taking medicines for HIV — speak to your pharmacist or doctor first.
What is the difference between Pirinase and Beconase?
Both are steroid nasal sprays for hay fever. Pirinase contains fluticasone and is dosed once a day; Beconase contains beclometasone and is dosed twice a day. Your pharmacist can help you choose.
