SYSTANE Balance Lubricant Eye Drops - 10ml

Systane Balance is a lubricant eye drop with the LipiTech system, used for the temporary relief of burning and irritation from dry eye, particularly evaporative dry eye where the tear film's oily (lipid) layer is lacking, sold by Ways Pharmacy (UK).

Key facts

Who it is for

• People with evaporative dry eye where tears evaporate too quickly
• People with meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD) or a lipid-deficient tear film
• People whose eyes burn or feel irritated rather than simply gritty
• People who find plain watery drops wear off quickly

Not suitable for: anyone allergic to an ingredient. These are not for eye infections, injuries or pain. The drops may blur vision briefly after instilling; if you wear contact lenses, check the leaflet, as some lubricant drops should be used with lenses out.

How to use

1. Read the leaflet and wash your hands before use.
2. Shake the bottle well before each use.
3. Tilt your head back, gently pull down the lower eyelid and look up.
4. Squeeze 1-2 drops into the affected eye(s) as needed.
5. Blink to spread the drops; vision may blur briefly, so wait until it clears before driving.

Frequently asked questions

What is Systane Balance used for?

It relieves burning and irritation from dry eye and is designed for evaporative dry eye, where the oily lipid layer of the tear film is lacking, such as in meibomian gland dysfunction.

How is Systane Balance different from ordinary artificial tears?

Its LipiTech system helps restore the lipid (oily) layer of the tear film to slow tear evaporation, whereas basic artificial tears mainly add water. This makes it suited to evaporative dry eye.

Why do I need to shake the bottle?

Systane Balance is an emulsion containing oil, so shaking before use mixes the lipid evenly to deliver a consistent drop each time.

Can I use Systane Balance with contact lenses?

Check the leaflet first. Many emulsion-type lipid drops are best used with soft lenses out; remove your lenses, instil the drops, and wait before reinserting if the leaflet advises.

How long can I keep the bottle after opening?

Discard the bottle 6 months after first opening, even if drops remain, and do not use after the printed expiry date.

Safety and storage

• Always read the leaflet before use, as manufacturers update it regularly.
• Do not use if the security seal is missing or the tamper-evident cap is damaged.
• Store at room temperature; do not use after the printed expiry date.
• Discard 6 months after first opening. Keep out of the sight and reach of children.
