Frequently asked questions

How does Fybogel work?

Fybogel contains ispaghula husk, a bulk-forming fibre. It absorbs water in the bowel to make the stool softer and bulkier, which helps it pass more easily and naturally.

How long does Fybogel take to work?

Bulk-forming laxatives work gradually. It can take 2 to 3 days of regular use before you see the full effect, so it is not for instant relief.

Why must I drink plenty of water with Fybogel?

Because it works by absorbing water to bulk up the stool, you must take it with plenty of fluid. Taking it with too little water, or just before bed, can risk it swelling in the throat or gullet.

Can I take Fybogel in pregnancy?

Bulk-forming laxatives such as Fybogel are often suitable in pregnancy, but speak to your pharmacist or doctor before use so they can confirm it is right for you.

Can children take Fybogel?

Fybogel Hi-Fibre is suitable for adults and children aged 6 and over, with the dose adjusted by age as shown on the pack.
