Who it is for
- Adults and children aged 6 and over with constipation who need more fibre in their diet.
- Pregnant women with constipation, where a change in diet has not been enough.
- People with haemorrhoids who want to keep stools soft and avoid straining.
Not suitable for: Children under 6; anyone allergic to ispaghula husk or any ingredient; people with difficulty swallowing or throat problems, a narrowing or blockage anywhere in the gut, faecal impaction, reduced gut movement (colonic atony), or disease of the oesophagus; anyone with a sudden change in bowel habit lasting more than 2 weeks or undiagnosed rectal bleeding. Contains aspartame, a source of phenylalanine – not suitable if you have phenylketonuria. Frail or elderly people and people with diabetes or kidney problems (it contains potassium) should use it under medical supervision. Ask a pharmacist first if you take other medicines, as ispaghula can affect their absorption.

Frequently asked questions
How do I take Fybogel Hi-Fibre Orange?
Stir one sachet into about 150ml of cold water and drink it as soon as possible, ideally after a meal, morning and evening. Do not take it just before bed.
How long does Fybogel take to work?
It usually starts to work within 12 to 24 hours. It bulks and softens the stool rather than stimulating the bowel, so it is gentler but not immediate.
Can children take it?
Yes, from age 6. Children 6 to 12 take half to one level 5ml spoonful of granules (measured from a sachet) in water morning and evening. Under-6s should not take it.
Is it safe in pregnancy?
The licence covers constipation in pregnancy and breastfeeding, where a change in diet has not been enough. Speak to your midwife, doctor or our pharmacist if you are unsure.
Why do I need to drink plenty of water with it?
Ispaghula swells as it absorbs fluid. Taken with too little liquid it can swell in the throat or gullet and cause choking or a blockage, so always mix it fully in water and keep drinking fluids.
Does it contain sugar or aspartame?
It is sweetened with aspartame and saccharin sodium rather than sugar, so it is not suitable for people with phenylketonuria. It is essentially sodium free but contains a small amount of potassium.
