Frequently asked questions
How is this medicine supplied?
Sildenafil 50mg is a pharmacy medicine. Our GPhC-registered pharmacist will ask about your symptoms, medical history and other medicines, and will only supply it if it is suitable for you. If it is not suitable, the pharmacist will explain what to do next.
When should I take the tablet?
About one hour before sexual activity, swallowed whole with water. Take no more than one tablet in any 24 hours.
Does it work on its own?
No. Sexual stimulation is needed for sildenafil to have an effect.
Can I drink alcohol with it?
You are advised not to drink large amounts of alcohol before sexual activity, because alcohol can make it harder to get an erection and can lower your blood pressure.
Can I take it with nitrates or amyl nitrite poppers?
No. Sildenafil must never be taken with nitrates or nitric oxide donors in any form, because the combination can cause a serious fall in blood pressure. Tell the pharmacist about every medicine you take.
What should I do if an erection lasts more than 4 hours?
Get medical help immediately. A prolonged erection can permanently damage the penis if it is not treated quickly.
Safety and storage
- Never take this medicine with nitrates, nitric oxide donors such as amyl nitrite, riociguat or ritonavir.
