Description

EarCalm Spray is a pharmacy medicine containing acetic acid 2% w/w, used to treat superficial infections of the outer ear canal, including the sort that follow swimming or bathing. For adults and children aged 12 and over, sold by Ways Pharmacy (UK).

Who it is for

Adults and children aged 12 and over with a mild infection of the outer ear canal.
People who get ear irritation after swimming, showering or bathing.
Anyone a pharmacist or doctor has advised to treat a superficial outer ear infection at home.

Not suitable for: Children under 12 years, unless a doctor advises it. Anyone with a known sensitivity to acetic acid or any other ingredient. If you have, or think you may have, a perforated eardrum, speak to your doctor before using this medicine. Ask a pharmacist or doctor first if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, planning a pregnancy, or if you suffer from allergies. Stop treatment and contact your doctor if you get any pain, if your hearing is affected, or if symptoms worsen or do not improve within 48 hours.

How to use

Read the label and Patient Information Leaflet (PIL) before use.
Before using a new bottle, shake it well and press the pump down several times until a fine spray appears. Do not point the nozzle at yourself or anyone else.
Shake well, place the nozzle tip gently into the ear and press the pump once to deliver one measured dose.
Use at least three times a day — morning, evening and after swimming, showering or bathing. Leave at least 2 to 3 hours between doses.
Continue treatment until 2 days after your symptoms have gone. Do not use for more than 7 days in total.
If you have not used the spray for more than a week, prime the pump again before your next dose.

How long can I use it for?

Can children use it?

It is for adults and children aged 12 and over. It is not recommended for children under 12 without medical advice.

Can I use it if my eardrum is perforated?

Speak to your doctor first. Do not use it if you have, or think you may have, a perforated eardrum unless your doctor tells you to.

How long does a bottle last once opened?

Use it within one month of first use. Store below 25°C and keep the bottle upright in its carton.

For use in the ear only. Avoid spraying near the eyes.
Stop treatment and contact your doctor if you get any pain, if your hearing is affected, or if symptoms worsen or do not improve within 48 hours.
Do not store above 25°C. Keep the bottle upright in the original carton and use within one month of first use.
Keep out of the sight and reach of children.
Read the PIL. Report suspected side effects through the MHRA Yellow Card scheme.
