About the PSA blood test
A PSA blood test measures prostate-specific antigen (PSA) in the blood. PSA is a protein produced mainly by prostate cells. A raised PSA level can be associated with prostate conditions, including an enlarged prostate, inflammation or prostate cancer. A high PSA result does not mean you have cancer, and a PSA result cannot diagnose cancer on its own. Discuss the benefits, risks and results of PSA testing with your GP or another qualified clinician.
PSA testing can also be used to monitor people receiving treatment for a prostate condition. PSA can be present in the blood in a free form or bound to other proteins. The proportion of free PSA describes how much of the total PSA is not bound to proteins.

How the test works
Please attend Ways Pharmacy at the address below.
A healthcare professional will collect a venous blood sample. After collection, the sample is sent to the testing laboratory by specialist logistics.
The sample is tested using laboratory instruments, with a doctor providing an explanation and summary of the data. Your final test report is sent to your email address as a PDF within 5 working days of testing.
What is included
The prostate-specific antigen test service includes:
- Total PSA
- Free PSA
- Calculated PSA Ratio
Your report
The report contains the results for the tests listed above, with reference ranges. Results outside the reference range, whether high or low, are marked for your attention.
If you have other health tests or individual coronavirus tests at the same time, such as antibody or N-protein testing, the results and doctor's summary may be presented in the same report.
